Unavailability or lack of proper dedicated pig/scraper launcher and receiver facilities may cause a pipeline that is traditionally accepted as piggable to be considered non-piggable. HOW TO PIG NON PIGGABLE LINES?
The best or ideal pipeline for pigging is when the following conditions are met
- A straight pipeline
- A uniformly round internal diameter without any change in wall thickness and weld penetration
- Internal surface is polished
- No valves or offtakes
In reality all of these conditions are rarely met and in certain cases none are met.
In certain cases if proper considerations are not taken into account then the line can be completely unpiggable.
